Solstizi (VI)
--
This work is part of a series by contemporary artist Manuele Cerutti, entitled ‘Solstizi’. The title evokes the bi-annual event in our solar system when the sun — the source of light and life on earth — passes a particular threshold. It is, of course, the Solstice. This moment encompasses when the two opposite conditions of light and dark become the protagonists. Light is traditionally considered not only as the way in which we detect reality (light is in some senses synonymous with our reality), but also as a universal entity that flows over and bathes each individual. Infinite — day by day, moment by moment — the variety of light conditions, its qualities, its diversity, shows infinite variety. ‘Solstizi’ analyses some of the aspects of this multiplicity with reference to these extreme moments of the year, in which the diversity of light and shadow appear inseparable from other significant characteristics. Cerutti in these works considers the duration of the day, its temperature, the treatment of light and shade, and fosters the emergence of subjective perception in both animate and inanimate beings.
