A Gift to My Mom
Marta Roberti is a contemporary Italian artist whose works are mainly based on hand-drawn video animations, drawings installations with video projections and light boxes. In Roberti’s projects, she explores figures, places, and practices, that can contrast to the dominant mode of rationalism in contemporary culture. Rationalism, defined as the principle of basing opinions and actions on reason, and knowledge, rather than on religious belief or emotional response, is at the forefront o f Western political and academic thought. Roberti is particularly interest in investigating how Western identity only arises from binarism, or, in more general terms, what it considers as other than itself: animal, nature, the exotic, the East and pre-history. Through what might at first appear as delicate drawing works, Roberti therefore tackles some very challenging contemporary issues that bear significant weight in current philosophy and culture. In Roberti’s most recent works, she is interested in experimenting with the deconstruction of conventional representations of nature.Made on hand-made paper from Yunnan, China.
