The present series of photographic works by Guilia Caira has been called by the artist ‘Chamber Photography’. Caira began her characteristic photographic research into body image issues as early as 1994. The artist’s expressive attitude in photography can be traced clearly from the beginnings of her experiments with black and white photography into her more contemporary work. Through the use of series of connected photographs, Caira creates scenes like sequences in an episode, forming short narrative segments with clear references to cinema, arts, news and literature. Caira’s pursuit into research into gender issues in contemporary life and patriarchy demonstrates her commitment to a progressive and feminist practice in the arts.
