On being superficial
In this intriguing work, Delphine Valli reveals a beautiful knowledge and handling of geometric forms. Spray-painted on a two-dimensional surface, Valli demonstrates how colours alone draw our eye to form shapes, space and perspective. Colour and texture alone draw our attention to lines that in fact, are not present in the work itself but implied by the eye. Valli shows an expert handling in these particular forms not only of the material present in the work, but in the very balance and manipulation of the space itself. Opening up, closing and interacting through her artistic works, space itself becomes a plastic element of Valli’s pieces and are a defining feature of her work. In doing so, Valli reveals herself as an expert contemporary sculptor — one who fashions an experience, as much as an object.
