In Delphine Valli’s intriguing sculptural works, the artist manipulates the simplicity of a singular material — such as that of iron, or wood — to focus our attention on form. Solid painted colours draw our attention to what appears to be line in Valli’s artistic work; though of course it is not one drawn by the brush or the pencil, but formed by the clear edges of her constructions. Valli shows an expert handling in these particular forms not only of the material present in the work, but in the very balance and manipulation of the space itself. Opening up, closing and interacting through her sculptural set ups, space itself becomes a plastic element of Valli’s pieces and are a defining feature of her work. In doing so, Valli reveals herself as an expert contemporary sculptor — one who fashions an experience, as much as an object.
