Anna Kompaniets is a Russian born artist living and working in London. After studying Fine Art at Goldsmiths University, Anna has worked for and with some of the most talented artists and designers in UK including the late Alexander McQueen, Andrew Logan, Vivienne Westwood and Hew Locke, among others. Kompaniets is inspired continuously from individuals within history, contemporary culture, mythology, and the intricate beauty of nature. Her work spans an intriguing array of artistic mediums such as painting, jewellery, costume art, performance art and drawings, and they always encompass a meticulously detailed approach that expresses her love of colour, texture and sparkle in a maximalist and opulent way. Through colour and texture we find the rich inspirations from her varied cultural heritage, drawing references from history, fashion, music, politics and folk art. Kompaniets has been at the forefront in bridging the gap between fashion and art, of which use of material has become a principle issue of our time. Kompaniets recycles what is ordinarily associated with rubbish or waste in creative ways, drawing attention to the meaning and value we place on such materials in society. For such use of recycled materials, Kompaniets has received Arts Council funding, and has shown her work at leading institutions such as Tate Britain, The Globe Theatre, Turner Contemporary and the Maritime Museum.
