Autoscatto, Paris
The series of works by Donatella Spaziani entitled Autoscatto are in fact not referring to herself, but to a body who moves in the space. It is linked to a period in which, as a “young Italian artist” (a phase of life in Italy that can one can occupy until around age forty to fifty years old), Spaziani was travelling extensively. Moving through space, she had to be light in physical luggage and also quick to explain herself and her work. When making these self-portraits, Spaziani incorporated a timer to the camera — she was aware of an action that had to be fast and impacting. Furthermore, it had to be precise to be captured — much like her experience in life of travelling around the world. This photographic print is a single edition out of six.
