Stefan Jovanović was born and is currently based in Sombor, Serbia. Jovanović graduated in New Media Arts at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad, Serbia. During his studies, Jovanović often shifted from medium to medium, including photography, collage, audio-visual performance, projection mapping, video and printmaking. Through constantly attempting new forms of creative expression, Jovanović was able to avoid ever repeating himself and instead, to uncover new parts of himself in various medias. Continually pushing himself and his creative limits, some of which were purely digital, enabled Jovanović to decide where he felt most at home in his artistic practice — when working with physical materials. Collage, printed photographs, found objects and prints, remain hallmarks of his creative work. Since then, Jovanović has pursued a Master’s degree in Printmaking with a focus on linocut and algraphy. This artist’s contemporary practice continue to evolve and change depending on which medium is placed in focus; where he finds that after pursuing a single medium for some time, he is able to return to another refreshed. When time passes, the artist feels that mediums previously seen to become once again new and unexplored. Integral to both Jovanović’s creative process and work is this cyclical nature — old photographs and scrap paper become collages, collages become print sketches, unused prints become scrap paper, and so on. Collecting Jovanović’s work, means attaining a piece of this never-ending evolving cycle.
