Cristina Falasca focuses on reflecting on the ambiguity of forms, aiming to place the observer in front of an apparent contradiction of the senses. Falasca reveals the ambiguity of desiring and the multitude of forms of desiring, under different perspectives through artwork. This involves experiencing a route down from the sensory to a level more deep, latent and almost imaginary. Falasca states that she is looking to look at where our story is only a sediment — not only our personal stories (with events, affections, and relations with the world) — but also at a deeper level the links and forms of a non-material sense of the word that enable us to share artistic work, to identify as ‘human beings’ and that give a structure to our collective stories as living individuals. These ideas draw from a sense of the archetypes and the value of memory and shared consciousness. Through art, Falasca reveals a possibility to feel in connection with others, to transcend the material and to enter into a consideration of what resides below. When cultural, social and private structures are undone, there is an identity and links which become again the grounds for a free and experimental relation with the world and with one another. Falasca cites male-female, attraction-repulsion, seduction-uneasiness, as constants in her artistic research. The body, the sculpture’s physicality, is the site through which the artist explores the material world coming into contact with the ‘Other’ — almost as if seeking a bridge between the imagined divide of matter and body. Through contradictions and non-linear sensorial connections in highly haptic works, Falasca creates situations where the observer is called to face an emotional and imaginative experience that is complex — one which branches out rather than following a logical course. Falasca’s explorations of different perceptual levels: body-matter, sound-evocation, light-eye, create a varied range of works that continue to develop in concept and in form.
