Anabel Nájera-López

El Paso | United States

Anabel Nájera-López is a Mexican-American artist who grew up in Ciudad Juárez, born in 1993. Nájera-López received her BFA in Studio Art with a specialisation in Painting and Ceramics at the University of Texas at El Paso. The choice of working in a predominantly figurative style that uses the techniques of ceramics — traditionally associated with crafts rather than fine art — creates Nájera-López’ distinctive style that conveys the process. Marks, fingerprints, textures, brush strokes, are left within the works as traces of its evolution. The intimate creative process takes on a visceral subject matter — the body — that Nájera-López invites viewers to contemplate their own responses to.

Throughout Nájera-López’ career as an undergraduate, she has received numerous awards and scholarships, such as the Tom Lea Purchase Award for Best Drawing/Best Painting, the Catherine Crowell Belk Art Scholarship, as well as being selected for a solo exhibition at the El Paso Museum of Art, Lab/EPMA. Nájera-López has shown work both nationally and internationally.
