Bojan Blagojević is a visual artist whose expression is shaped by a fascination with computer-generated processing. The result is a visual output that is at once man-made in terms of its perception and machine-made in terms of its production. Blagojević’s works play with the amount of control used through an artist’s inputs and computer’s outputs, questioning the thin line between natural and artificial creativity. The artist finds that an intuitive process structures colour, texture and shape in his works with an uncanny shallowness created in a digital space. By choosing visual components and then directing their ‘route’ in the work; Blagojević creates a structure held together by the tension of shapes, colours and gestures. His visuals have a somewhat haptic character, yet they are two-dimensional at the same time. It is as though they are sequences of a two dimensional sculpting process, that happens in an artificial frame in the digital context of the medium. Blagojević’s art is a result of co-authorship with other man-made contributes. Through exploring generative design processes that utilise programming and its visual forms, Blagojević is keen to continue exploration into a formula for contemporary art whilst knowing that it will never quite be found.
