Sally O’Dowd is an award-winning visual artist who creates often absurd, and socially awkward, artwork across the media of performance, film, sculpture and drawing. Due to being a direct outcome from her live art practice, O’Dowd’s drawings are an attempt to document the authentic moment, to make a record of our personal and collective history — one that is behind the scenes, behind the everyday, and in a state of flux. She uses single lines in an expressive, yet precise fashion, to capture activities, events, and sometimes, to position activity. Most recently, O’Dowd was selected as artist-in-residence for the C.S. Lewis Festival Glider Residency in Belfast, Northern Ireland. In 2017, O'Dowd completed a series of drawings, commissioned by the East Belfast Partnership, documenting life and place in East Belfast. O’Dowd holds a Masters of Art: Art & Process from CIT Crawford College of Art, Cork. She is a recipient of the prestigious CREATE artist in the community award. Her work has been shown in Ireland, the UK and Internationally, and she was shortlisted as an assistant curator at the Venice Architecture Biennale for Ireland with Noel Kelly. She is a founding member of Townhall Cavan Arts Space, and a founding member and studio holder at Vault Artist Studios, Belfast.
