The Lady Vanishes
Brian Kielt’s signature paintings reveal an adept use of expressive line and evocative colour. In each of Kielt’s canvases, we find unique explorations into the subjectivity of experience that capture a world in a constant state of flux. These works are beautiful as stand alone pieces and powerful as a collected series. One painting after another, Kielt slowly unravels to us a form of artistic expression that uses harsh and visceral techniques — rubbing, etching and scraping painted media across the surface — to leave us with an ambiguous sense of trauma and memory in a work on canvas. Founded on principles of drawing as much as painting, Kielt’s contemporary works thrive in the modern-day setting of freedom of expression that seek to widen the scope for understanding the many facets of human experience.
